October 22, 2020 1 min read
Global Impella trainer Kevin Ray, MS, RT(R), CV, provides a tip-to-toe review of the Impella 5.5 with SmartAssist.
Featured highlights include:
- No pigtail - helps eliminate the risk of adhesions, ingrowth, or thrombus formation on the pigtail, improves torquability of the catheter, and prevents the catheter from getting caught up in left ventricular papillary muscle
- Elongated inlet - helps reduce the risk of suction and allows more flow through the Impella 5.5 with SmartAssist
- Rigid 21Fr cannula - provides better deliverability, pushability, and torquability of the catheter
- Optical pressure sensor - provides true physiologic pressure on the Automated Impella Controller™(AIC)
- 19Fr motor - 45% shorter than the Impella 5.0® motor with ceramic bearings to help dissipate heat and improve the longevity of use
- 9Fr catheter - integrated steel coil makes the catheter more kink resistant and provides better torquability and deliverability
- No repositioning sheath
- Integrated white connector cable - just one connection to prep and operate the Impella 5.5 with SmartAssist
