Course Description:
This intensive, multidisciplinary workshop prepares clinical teams to identify, escalate, manage, and wean patients receiving mechanical circulatory support (MCS). By integrating a host site patient story with expert presentations, panel discussions, hands on skills stations, and case based learning, the course equips participants with the practical skills and device focused knowledge essential for delivering high quality bedside care and guiding program level decisions.
Learning Objectives:
• Identify early escalation indicators and apply a standardized “golden day” pathway for patient triage and activation.
• Assess and manage complex physiology (RV dysfunction and LCOS) and implement surgical/medical optimization using case-based reasoning.
• Demonstrate device-specific skills for Impella CP, Impella 5.5, and RP Flex with SmartAssist® (repositioning, alarm troubleshooting, bedside handling).
• Execute safe weaning protocols that integrate echocardiographic assessment for position and weaning decisions.
