Heart Team Observation: Best Practices in Shock Outcomes
Target audience: Established Interdisciplinary teams of up to six healthcare professionals who have a strong heart team foundation and are looking to strengthen their advanced heart failure and MCS pathways. Teams may include a mix of Interventional Cardiologists, Advanced Heart Failure Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Intensivists or Cardiac Anesthesiologists, Advanced Practice Providers, Coordinators and Service Line Leaders.

This hospital‑based observation course immerses interdisciplinary teams in the real‑world operations of an established Heart Team. Through a host‑site patient story, attendance at patient‑selection meetings, observed bedside rounds, and role‑specific breakout shadowing, participants gain practical insight into team workflows, clinical decision‑making, and program operations to inform local implementation.
Learning Objectives:
• Observe and summarize core Heart Team roles, workflows, and the decision‑making process used during patient‑selection meetings.
• Identify early indicators for patient escalation and how multidisciplinary teams apply selection criteria for MCS interventions.
• Shadow role‑specific clinical activities to capture practical best practices and workflow adaptations for local teams.
• Interpret Heart Team data‑collection approaches and key metrics that support quality improvement and program evaluation.
• After returning from the course, learners are encouraged to translate their observations into a concise implementation plan outlining next steps, priority changes, and data checkpoints to support adaptation of best practices at their home institution.
