Avid Runner Crosses Racing Milestone Following Protected PCI Procedure

In Singapore, Prem Prakash Pathak started noticing tightness in his chest during his morning training runs. With his wife’s encouragement, the father of two young children visited Dr. Leslie Tay, an interventional cardiologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. Dr. Tay discovered three of the arteries to Prem's heart were blocked, and he was in severe heart failure. In the hopes of getting Prem on the road to recovery, Dr. Tay suggested a Protected PCI with ImpellaTM

Dr. Tay inserted the Impella CPTM with SmartAssistTM, which supported Prem's heart while Dr. Tay cleared the blocked arteries. The device was removed shortly after the procedure, and several weeks later, Prem was starting some light exercise. One-year later, with Dr. Tay’s support, Prem accomplished his original goal of completing a half-marathon in Singapore.

Today, Prem continues with his routine training, while enjoying each moment with his family.

As with any medical treatment, individual results may vary. There are potential risks, these risks need to be discussed with your doctor and recovery takes time. The success of this procedure depends on many factors, including your physical condition and your body’s ability to tolerate the procedure. Use care in the selection of your doctors and hospital, based on their skill and experience.
